Guided by the thought „What can we do for our club and our city" HVK Vukovar is organizing the race 8+ (eights), ROWING MARATHON VUKOVAR – ILOK in a length of 36 km on a Danube river.
Our wish is to remain the tradition of keeping the REGATTAS in Vukovar, to meet the youth of Vukovar with our sport, and to remind the old Vukovar people on our rowing competitions which were held in our town. With gathering and socializing of all the devotees of rowing, starting from families, amateurs, students and friends all up to the top male and female rowers, we wish to promote the competitive and amateur rowing and tradition of life on Danube/sports, fishing, expeditions/to meet our guests with enological and gastronomical offer of the eastern Slavonija, especially Vukovar and Ilok.
We started this rowing story on September 30, 2004, when 8 veteran eights from Croatia performed. Since the biggest part of the members of HVK Vukovar were actively participating in Homeland war defending the sovereignty of Republic of Croatia and the city of Vukovar, and 32 members of our club lost their lives or are still listed as missing, ROWING MARATHON VUKOVAR – ILOK is held in a memory of September 23, 1991 – The day of founding the legendary 204th Vukovar brigade.
